The genus Aphthovirus consists of two species,
Foot-and-mouth disease virus and
Equine rhinitis A virus. Recent
nucleotide sequence data has shown that
bovine rhinoviruses (three serotypes previously classified
as tentative members of the now defunct genus Rhinovirus)
should be re-classified in the genus Aphthovirus.
