A novel small RNA virus has recently been found in dogs (Woo et al., 2012). The genome sequence appears to be most closely related to the picornaviruses and to have a similar genome organization, except that the P1 and P2/P3 regions are encoded in two ORFs separated by an intergenic region containing an IRES. Its classification remains to be determined.

Accession numbers: JN819202, JN819203 & JN819204.

Genome organisation:

VPg+5'UTRIRES[1A-1B-1C-1D]IGRIRES[2A-2B-2C/3A-3BVPg-3Cpro-3Dpol]3'UTR

IGR, intergenic region
IRES, internal ribosome entry site
