Duck hepatitis virus 2 (DHV-2)
and DHV-2 are two of three small RNA viruses causing
duck virus hepatitis, the other one being
DHV-1.
Duck hepatitis virus 2 was
reclassified as an astrovirus and renamed duck astrovirus 1
(DAstV-1) many years ago (Gough et al., 1984, 1985). No
molecular sequence data has been published to confirm this
placement, however, a partial polymerase sequence has been recently
been determined and sequence comparisons indicate that DHV-2 is
indeed an astrovirus (N.J. Knowles, M.J Carter and R.E Gough,
unpublished data). Further, a partial polymerase sequence for DHV-3
(Haider and Calnek, 1979)
was also determined and the sequence also shown to be that of an
astrovirus, distinct from DAstV-1 (N.J. Knowles, M.J Carter and R.E
Gough, unpublished data).
