Duck hepatitis virus 2 (DHV-2)  and DHV-3 are two of three small RNA viruses causing duck virus hepatitis, the other one being DHV-1.

DHV-2 was reclassified as an astrovirus and renamed duck astrovirus 1 (DAstV-1) many years ago (Gough et al., 1984, 1985). DHV-3 was first characterised by Haider and Calnek (1979).

Recent partial polymerase sequences of DHV-2 (DAstV-1) and DHV-3 have been determined show that they are both astroviruses and that DHV-3 is distinct from DAstV-1 (Todd et al., 2009).
